Insurance

If you have dental insurance, you likely have more flexibility than you realize. Many patients assume that seeing a dentist means paying entirely out of pocket, but depending on your plan, your insurer may still reimburse a meaningful portion of your treatment costs. Understanding how your benefits actually work can make a significant difference in how you approach your dental care.

Vinings Modern Dentistry is a fee-for-service, out-of-network dental practice in Smyrna & Vinings, GA. We gladly accept all PPO dental insurance plans and work directly with your insurance company to help you maximize your benefits. Being an out-of-network provider allows us to prioritize your individual needs without the restrictions of insurance networks.

Insurance Plans We Work With

Reimbursement amounts vary by plan, by procedure, and by your individual benefit tier. We recommend contacting your insurance provider directly before your appointment to confirm your out-of-network coverage and understand what portion of your treatment may be reimbursable. Our front desk team can also help you prepare the right documentation to support your claim.

We gladly accept all PPO dental insurance plans and will work directly with your insurance company to help you maximize your benefits. Being an out-of-network provider allows us to prioritize your individual needs without the restrictions of insurance networks. Our patients still receive excellent reimbursement, and we’re happy to handle the paperwork to make things as easy as possible for you. For patients without dental insurance, we also offer an in-house membership plan designed to make preventive care more accessible and help reduce the cost of treatment. It’s a simple, affordable way to stay on top of your oral health without the complexities of insurance.

How the Reimbursement Process Works

The process for seeking  reimbursement is straightforward. After your appointment, we provide you with a detailed receipt — sometimes called a superbill — that includes procedure codes, fees charged, and the provider information your insurer needs to process a claim. You submit this document to your insurance company, and they will reimburse you directly based on your plan’s out-of-network benefit structure.

Some plans process these claims quickly, while others may take a few weeks. If your insurer requires additional information or documentation, our team is happy to assist. We want the process to feel as manageable as possible, and we are used to helping patients navigate it. Learn more about the preventive care and other services your benefits may help cover.

Why Patients Prefer Out-of-Network Care

The appeal of fee-for-service dentistry is about more than just insurance logistics. When a dentist is not contracted with an insurer, treatment decisions are made based solely on what is best for the patient — not on what a plan will approve or what fits within a reimbursement cap. Appointments tend to be longer, consultations more thorough, and recommendations more conservative. There is no incentive to over-treat, and no pressure to rush.

Many of our patients have dental coverage through their employer and choose to come to Vinings Modern Dentistry anyway — because the quality of their experience and the trust they have in their provider matters more than staying strictly in network. For those patients, out-of-network reimbursement offsets a portion of the cost, and the care they receive is worth the difference.

PPO Plans vs. HMO Plans

Not all dental insurance plans include out-of-network benefits. PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) plans typically allow patients to see providers outside the network and still receive some reimbursement, which is why most of our patients with insurance carry a PPO plan. HMO (Health Maintenance Organization) dental plans, by contrast, generally require you to see a provider within the network and do not reimburse for out-of-network care.

If you are unsure what type of plan you have, the quickest way to find out is to call the member services number on the back of your insurance card and ask specifically whether your plan includes out-of-network dental benefits. We are also happy to help you think through the right questions to ask. Visit our financing page if you are also exploring payment plan options to complement your coverage.

No Insurance? No Problem.

Not having dental insurance does not mean dental care is out of reach. Many of our patients are uninsured or self-pay, and we have built our practice around making high-quality care accessible regardless of coverage status. We offer flexible financing through CareCredit and Cherry, and we accept HSA and FSA funds, cash, check, and all major credit cards.

For patients without insurance, fee-for-service care can actually simplify the entire experience. You pay for what you need, based on a transparent fee schedule, without navigating plan limitations, pre-authorization requirements, or annual maximums. Our team will walk you through the full cost of your treatment plan upfront so you always know what to expect.

Maximizing Your Annual Benefits

Most dental insurance plans operate on a calendar year, with annual maximums that reset on January 1. If you have unused benefits approaching year-end, it can be a good time to schedule any treatment you have been putting off. Because we provide documentation for reimbursement, you can still take advantage of your remaining benefit balance even as an out-of-network patient — as long as your plan includes out-of-network coverage.

We recommend checking your remaining benefit balance with your insurer in the fall each year. Our team can help you prioritize which treatments to schedule based on your available coverage and your overall treatment plan. Our Commitment to Honest Dentistry

Choosing a fee-for-service practice is a choice to prioritize care over convenience. At Vinings Modern Dentistry, we believe that is the right trade-off. Dr. Lloyd built this practice around a philosophy of honesty — recommending only the treatment you truly need, explaining every option clearly, and never letting insurance coverage drive clinical decisions. That commitment shows up in every appointment, from the time spent with each patient to the transparency of every cost conversation.
